Alton Towers is set in 500 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. In the heart of the rides and parkland stands the imposing Gothic mansion of Alton Towers.
The history of the ground dates back to the 8th Century when a fortress bore the control of Ceolred, King of Mercia. The house and estate were originally called Alveton Lodge.During it's early life the mansion was only ever used as a summer residence. When Charles became the 15th Earl he decided to extend draughting in A.W. Pugin , the Architect involved in designing the very haunted Woodchester Mansion, was hired along with other architects and craftsmen to create what would become another outstanding example of Gothic architecture. It is believed that a curse was placed on the Talbot family after a son of the Earl neglected an old man. It is claimed that 'For every branch on the Old Oak Tree here that falls..., a member of the Earl's family will die.' The earl then ordered every branch of the oak tree to held up by chains to stop branches falling.Which can still be seen today. Some people think the curse is just folklore but that doesn't stop the constant rumour that the Black Arts have been performed at the base of the tree ever since. It is said if you visit the tree on a dark , moonless night you'll meet a dark stranger dressed in black. The Tower has a foreboding atmosphere reflecting its 1500 years of recorded history on the site. A Lady dressed in Black has been spotted several times gliding through the corridors of the towers leaving a faint smell of sweet perfume upon her passing presence. A visitor from the 1950s had reported seeing her peering from an upper floor window before disappearing and during the 1980s one of the Alton Towers staff asked a lady to leave the building believing it was a member of the public, and upon the request the apparition disappeared in front of their eyes!  Another ghost can be found in the music room. The presence of a man has been sensed along with the sounds of heavy footsteps charging towards the room. The same footsteps have also been heard in the banqueting hall with a shadow being seen flitting in front of the doorways. There are also many reports of Poltergeist activity. Visitors and staff alike have had small stones and objects thrown at them. It is an amazing location and researchers are claiming this is the Woodchester Mansion of the north!
Haunted Apparitions have exclusive use of the whole of building for our paranormal investigation. As with all our investigations we will also be providing a continual Buffet,Tea and Coffee throughout the night.
Each Team Member will have the chance to Spirit Dowse, our Technician will teach you how to use an EMF Meter and recording for EVP and you will be able to interact in various experiments that will be tailored for this particular investigation with the hope that it will induce more Paranormal Activity.
Our Resident Medium will be on hand to help communicate with any Souls found and also conduct a Séance and possible Channeling on the night. Dare you join the Haunted Apparitions Team to investigate the claims and help us find more??!!
