Lympne Castle is renowned for its hauntings , including that of an unfriendly spirit/poltergeist. Many ghostly tales are rumored about the Castle.A Roman solider is said to have fallen to his death whilst  in the watch-tower...his footsteps are still heard today walking to his post at the top of the tower.People experience feelings of despair and fear, this is said to be from a small group of Saxons that were caught hiding for lives by Norman soldiers and were promptly slaughtered. Many other apparitions , one in Tudor dress ,  gliding around the rooms have been seen by many. lympne 1

Historically, Lympne Castle, with its commanding views, has been strategically important since Roman times. The castle itself, parts of which date to the 13th century, has witnessed invasion by the Danes and the Normans, was formerly home to the Archdeacon of Canterbury and was once occupied by Thomas à Becket. It also played an important role as an observation post in World War II. With these credentials the castle surely merits its Grade 1 listing as being of Architectural or Historic Interest.

Once inside the castle you are transported back to medieval times. The West Wing Drawing Room, whilst echoing the majesty of the medieval castle, belongs to a different era. It was added in Edwardian times when the famous architect Sir Robert Lorimer was commissioned to restore the castle, which was then near to ruin. The Great Hall boasts part panelled walls, Gothic windows and wooden roof beams. Some say you can still hear the echoes of medieval music, laughter and lively talk of bygone feasts and celebrations..
